The story
I jumped at the chance to promote this lovely story. Dan and Cora Hughes (8) created a dungeon crawling board game they called “CoraQuest” during lockdown. After much playtesting, and with helpful advice and support from board-gamers in Huddersfield and around the world they launched it on KickStarter on February 1st. Within 45 minutes they had raised the £12,000 they needed to get the game made! 48 hours later they had £50,000 pledged. The buzz it created was infectious. It wasn’t long before so many media outlets were snaffling up my press releases that we hit the limit on how many broadcast media interviews an 8 year old is prepared to give!
News coverage
We started with The Yorkshire Post https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/people/nhs-nurse-launches-adventure-board-game-help-his-brilliant-eight-year-old-daughter-3119558
Then BBC Look North …
And ITV Calendar .
Then Saturday morning with BBC Breakfast …
And The Guardian.
And finally, back home to Huddersfield with the Huddersfield Examiner. By which time CoraQuest had racked up an incredible £125,000 in pledges.
Over the following weeks and months the Guardian article was regurgitated elsewhere on the internet, including on msn.com, spreading the good word far and wide. The coverage sparked a flurry of excitement in the international board game community. And pulled a whole bunch of people into the Kickstarter who would never have found it otherwise. Watching the Kickstarter pledges soar during BBC Breakfast was a very sweet feeling on a Saturday morning…
And we all had an exciting, fun time. With promises of invitations to BBC studios in November, when the game will be coming to a board game shop near you!
Testimonial
Here is what Dan Hughes said about me.
“Richard helped us gain both regional and national newspaper and television coverage for CoraQuest, a family board game we launched on Kickstarter in Febuary 2021. ”
“He was collaborative, knowledgeable, resourceful, and above all incredibly effective throughout the whole process. He added immeasurable value to our campaign and I doubt it would have been even half as successful without him. I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to recommend him to anyone seeking support to champion their project.”
