Blind hiker-Khalid’s walk

This is Khalid Hussain, a lovely man who asked me to help him write his JustGiving page. He is preparing for a 13 mile Mighty Hike in the Yorkshire Dales, raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support . Khalid hopes this is the beginning of a long career raising money for good causes. One of the joys of doing PR the Diversity PR way is I can say yes to great stories like Khalid’s on a no-fee basis, confident that people “out there” will support me in this work through Diversity PR’s Patreon page.

After retiring from his job as a social worker with Kirklees Council, Khalid had been wanting to do some kind of fundraising for Macmillan for a while. As well as setting up his JustGiving Page we discussed media strategy and how Khalid wished to present himself to the media. We felt that his blindness made his fundraising efforts more newsworthy so we agreed to lead on “blind hiker” in PR around his story. I drafted a press release for him which has led to some fine coverage in The Yorkshire Post, BBC Radio Leeds, The Dewsbury Reporter and Batley News. He has a return visit to BBC Radio Leeds booked for after his Mighty Hike, and we are working now on creating a social media profile for Khalid and his work. TV, national, international coverage and Hollywood beckons…
